The Executive Board of Commonwealth Sport has confirmed its recommendation of Ahmedabad, India, as the proposed host city for the Commonwealth Games 2030. The 24th edition of the Commonwealth Games will mark 100 years since the multi-sport event was first held in Ontario.
Commonwealth Games 2030 host in Ahmedabad
Ahmedabad will now submitted to the full Commonwealth Sport membership for approval, with a final decision expected at the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly in Glasgow on 26 November 2025, according to a statement from Commonwealth Sport.
If approved in November 2025, Ahmedabad will become the second Indian city to host the Commonwealth Games, following New Delhi in 2010. India is pursuing the Commonwealth Games as part of its broader goal to host the Olympic Games in 2036. Nigeria also submitted a bid to host the CWG in 2030.
Support for Nigeria hosting ambitions
Importantly, the Executive Board recognized Nigeria’s impressive bid and agreed to create a strategic plan to support and speed up Nigeria’s hosting ambitions for future Commonwealth Games, including the possibility of the 2034 edition. This decision highlights Commonwealth Games 2030 commitment to maintaining a steady pipeline for the Games and its desire to bring the Commonwealth Games to Africa for the first time.
PT Usha, President of the Commonwealth Games Association of India, stated that hosting the Centenary Games would be a significant moment for India.
