India registered 203 new Covid-19 patients in the last 24 hours, with the number of cases reaching 3,961 in the new virus outbreak, as per records. The disorder that added the world to a standstill in 2020 claimed 4 more lives, one each in Delhi, Kerala, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu, with the toll reach to 32 since 1 January 2025. Kerala (1,435), Maharashtra (506), Delhi (483), Gujarat (338), and West Bengal (331) have face most cases till date.
Covid-19 Cases Increase with New Variants
This fresh wave has been a result of new variants, NB.1.8.1 and LF.7, mutations of the Omicron offspring JN.1 variation. Both discovered in India.
The positive rate stands at around 64.08%. An high positive rate shows higher transmission and that there are probably more people with COVID in the network who haven’t been examined.

Dr Vikas Maurya, head of the pulmonary department at Fortis Healthcare, Shalimar Bagh, New Delhi, said they had been in large part seeing patients with light contamination, taking most of 1 week to get better. “Right now, each 2nd individual who has signs like cough, cold, fever and sore throat should tested for Corona and use a masks and isolate themselves.”

Recently, Dr Soumya Swaminathan, former director of the Indian Council of Medical Research and ex-chief scientist of the World Health Organisation, entreated pharma agencies to make sure that they can create a vaccine for new variants.
