2 Arrested for asking candidates to remove Brahmins sacred thread in NEET Exam Centre

Two peoples were arrested in reference to an incident wherein a candidate was allegedly asked to remove “janivara” (sacred thread worn by Brahmins) before entering the exam hall to appear for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) on May 4, police stated on Monday.

Based on the complaint of the candidate, an FIR was registered against the 2 staff deployed at the centre who allegedly requested him to remove of the sacred thread, they stated.

“In connection with the Janivara incident at a private exam centre throughout the day before NEET exam, the candidate has fill complaint against two people. We have taken the case. The staff was puzzled, and legal action was taken against them. Arrest action is performed,” Sharanappa S D, Kalaburagi City Police Commissioner said.

The men noted in the FIR are personnel who work for a business company and had been deputed by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for frisking responsibility, he said. “Both had been arrested on Sunday night and later released on bail because it was a bailable offence,” he added.

“Further investigation is going on to find out any role of others, and also the staff has been well instructed regarding their duties,” he said.

Brahmin community Protests outside exam hall

On Sunday, contributors of the Brahmin community staged a protest outside the NEET exam centre here, annoying duty after some  students of the community had been asked to remove their “sacred thread” before entering the exam hall. The candidates have been asked to remove the sacred thread and have it cut before getting into the exam hall.

This incident comes on the heels of a similar one all through the Common Entrance Test held for engineering and different vocational courses on April 16, in which the sacred threads of Brahmin boys had also been eliminated.
