Amidst tensions escalating at borders between India and Pakistan for the past two days, the Chandigarh district management on Friday has directed all the store establishments, such as restaurants, to be closed by 7 PM on Friday.
However, the district administration gave respite to medical stores as these orders wouldn’t be relevant to them. Releasing an order, the Chandigarh management took to X and wrote, “All save institutions such as restaurants in Chandigarh are required to be closed by 7:00 PM today, May 9, 2025. However, those orders will not be relevant for medical stores.”
Order against hoarding and stockpiling in Chandigarh
The District Magistrate of UT Chandigarh on Friday also imposed a ban on hoarding and stockpiling of crucial commodities under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, and Section 163 of the Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita Act, 2023.
The order has been handed to make sure the uninterrupted availability of vital items in the Union Territory and got here into impact from zero hours on 9 May.
Under this order, all individuals, investors, wholesalers, retailers, and enterprise entities had been barred from engaging in the hoarding of key items together with rice, wheat, pulses, sugar, fit for human consumption oils, veggies, dairy products, drug treatments, petrol, and diesel.
What the city authority said about legal order?
“In order to protects public order and keep smooth availability of critical items, I, Nishant Kumar Yadav, I.A.S., District Magistrate, U.T., Chandigarh, exercising the powers conferred upon me… Hereby order the next,” the official notification states.
The order also mandates that all investors and stockists have to declare their contemporary stock to the Department of Food & Supplies in three days of the order. If someone fails to do that, they will face legal action under the provisions of the regulation.
