A brief light rain on Friday morning turned a stretch of Amroha Road near Wave Sugar Mill in Uttar Pradesh’s district into a hazard zone for motorcycle riders. Reports stated that at least 12 motorcycles lost control, resulting in over 20 people sustaining minor injuries. Fortunately, no serious injuries or fatalities were reported.
Sugarcane Debris and Rain Create Slippery Amroha Road
Authorities explained that the road became dangerously slippery due to waste material from the nearby sugar mill. This byproduct, often used by farmers as organic fertilizer, frequently falls off tractor-trolleys during transport and piles up on the road.
When rainwater mixes with the residue, it creates a slick, oil-like layer, making even slow-moving motorcycles prone to skidding. Friday’s drizzle was enough to cause multiple accidents in just minutes, highlighting a recurring safety issue.
Swift Response by Sugar Mill and Police
After reports of the accidents on Amroha Road, Wave Sugar Mill management moved quickly. A fire brigade vehicle was sent to spray water and clear the sugarcane debris. At the same time, Bachhrayun police arranged additional cleaning with a tractor-mounted water system.
After the cleanup, traffic returned to normal, and authorities confirmed that the roads were operating smoothly. Local residents, however, urged officials to implement long-term preventive measures instead of relying on temporary fixes during rainy weather.
