The Golden Temple in Amritsar face blackout on Wednesday evening (May 7) as a part of a national civil defence mock drill ordered by using the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). Visuals captured in the blackout confirmed the lighting fixtures was became off at the long-lasting Golden Temple. The lights have been switched off later after the drill was concluded.

The Amritsar district administration implemented blackout measures throughout the town to improve public safety and emergency preparedness, the District Public Relations Officer (DPRO) said. “Taking utmost caution, the Amritsar district management has once more started the blackout drill. Please stay at home, do not panic and do not acquire outside your homes; maintain the out of doors lighting switched off,” the Amritsar DPRO said.
Police officer Jagtar Singh said, “The blackout occurs between 10:30 pm and 11 pm. The instructions are that there should not be any lighting on so that the enemy won’t understand there’s a city right here. Some humans are following the blackout, and a few aren’t. The siren was activated and then there was a entire blackout in two minutes.”
Other states in Blackout
Several states, along with Golden Temple Amritsar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, and Bihar, participated in the blackout practice, with cities like Barmer, Gwalior, Surat, Shimla, and Patna switching off lighting at homes and public areas. In the national capital, Delhi, iconic landmarks consisting of Rashtrapati Bhavan and Vijay Chowk also went blackout as part of the drill.
The mock drill was conducted after the Indian military release Operation Sindoor early on Wednesday on terror areas in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The operation came in response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians.
