A Delhi Court criticized the CBI for using the term “South Group” while reviewing its chargesheet in the corruption case tied to the alleged liquor policy scam. Special Judge Jitendra Singh from Rouse Avenue Courts said that selectively using a geographically defined label is arbitrary and unnecessary.
Delhi Court Criticizes CBI Over Use of ‘South Group’ Term
While dismissing all 23 accused individuals, including political leaders Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and K Kavitha, the judge raised concerns about the CBI’s intentional use of the term “South Group”.
The Court noted that this kind of naming no legal basis not fit any legally recognized classification, and is completely outside the legal framework governing criminal liability.
Observation by Rouse Avenue Court Judge
It emphasized that identity-based labeling, whether related to ethnicity, nationality, or regional background not used as a shortcut in prosecution when such identity does not relate to the crime. The Delhi Court urged the CBI to more careful and thoughtful in their language choices while writing chargesheets and narratives for investigations.
