Delhi-Himachal Police Standoff Ends with Transit Remand for Protest Arrests

A tense standoff between the police teams of Delhi and Shimla ended after 24 dramatic hours. The Delhi Police team received permission to return to the national capital with the three Youth Congress activists arrested during the “protest” at the AI Summit. During the stalemate, the Police team held for about five hours, even after getting the transit remand from the ACJM.

The Himachal Pradesh Police filed a kidnapping case against the Police officers and held their vehicles at the Shogi border near Shimla. This happened as they were heading back to the national capital with the detained Youth Congress members.

The three activists, along with the NCR Police taken to ACJM II Ekansh Kapil’s residence at 1:30 a.m. after medical exams at the Deendyal Upadhyay Zonal Hospital in Shimla. They then continued on their journey.

The Shimla police also asked the Delhi team to give over the digital evidence they had allegedly collected when they picked up the activists in Rohru. The Delhi Police insisted that the safety of the three accused was their responsibility and that they would not leave any of their officers behind. They then moved towards Shoghi.

At the Shoghi border, the Shimla police detained the Delhi team once more at 4 a.m. They also blocked a vehicle belonging to the Delhi Police, which is thought to hold CCTV footage and other evidence. The NCR Police said this vehicle contained digital proof, supporting documents, and weapons.
