Delhi police officers in plain clothes arrested three Youth Congress activists related to the ‘shirtless’ protest during the India AI summit at Bharat Mandapam. It triggers a FIR by the Himachal Pradesh police, accusing them of abduction and procedural violations.
Arrest of Youth Congress Activists Sparks Inter-State Dispute
The intense situation involved detained vehicles, an FIR filed, and questioning of officers about the process. It led to public confrontation between the Delhi Police and Himachal Pradesh Police over how the arrest conducted and the seizure of CCTV footage from a private resort in Rohru.
Shimla Police stopped the Delhi Police team several times, even though they had obtained a transit remand from a local court.
FIR, Detentions, and Standoff With Shimla Police
After medical checks at Deendyal Upadhyay Zonal Hospital, the three accused and Delhi Police personnel taken to the home of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM II) Ekansh Kapil at around 1:30 am.
The court granted transit remand, allowing them to proceed to Delhi. However, Shimla Police intercepted the convoy again and instructed some officers to remain and cooperate in a kidnapping case against the Delhi Police team.
Shimla Police informed Police that only three of their officers could transport the accused back to the national capital, while the others would need to stay in Shimla to assist with the investigation into the kidnapping case. Delhi Police disagreed, stating the safety of the accused was their responsibility.
