ECI Organises Three-Day International Meet on Election Management Practices

The Election Commission of India (ECI) host the first India International Conference on Democracy and Election Management (IICDEM) 2026 from January 21 to 23 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. Organized by the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM), this three-day conference is expected to be the largest international event in India focused on democracy and election management.

ECI hold 3-Day International Meet

An official release states that nearly 100 international delegates from over 70 countries will participate, along with representatives from international organizations, foreign missions in India, and experts in the electoral field.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Dr.Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr.Vivek Joshi, will welcome delegates and officially kick off the conference during the inaugural session on January 21.

What does it consists?

The program will include a mix of general and plenary sessions for Election Management Bodies (EMBs). This will feature the inaugural session, a plenary for EMB leaders, working group meetings, and several thematic sessions. Discussions will address global electoral challenges, international electoral standards, and recent innovations and best practices in election processes.

During the conference, 36 thematic groups will engage in detailed discussions. These groups will be led by Chief Electoral Officers of States and Union Territories, supported by national and international academic experts. Leading educational institutions, including four Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), six Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), and 12 National Law Universities (NLUs), along with the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), will also join the discussions.

The ECI will conduct over 40 bilateral meetings with various EMBs throughout the conference. These meetings aim to improve dialogue and cooperation on the common challenges faced by election authorities worldwide. The Commission will also launch ECINET, its integrated digital platform that provides election-related information and services.
