Recently, the Bannerghatta Biological Park announced that the four Cheetahs from South Africa arrive in Bengaluru. The animals arrive at Kempegowda International Airport under part of approved animal exchange program.
Four Cheetahs arrive in Bengaluru for Conservation purpose
The statement by Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP) reflects their aims to boost conservation, improve genetic diversity in captive populations and increase visitor awareness. It also support scientific research.
Forest, Ecology and Environment Minister Eshwar Khandre welcomed the cheetahs at the airport cargo terminal. The Minister instructed officials and veterinary teams to follow strict quarantine protocols. It also provide a proper diet, and closely monitor health for 30 days to help the animals adjust.
Aim to improve animal safety and well being
He noted that cheetahs, once called “Sivangi” in the local area, have vanished from Karnataka’s forests. He stressed the need for public awareness through zoological institutions. He also told Dr. Sunil Panwar, Member Secretary of the Zoo Authority of Karnataka (ZAK), to focus on the animals’ safety and well-being.
BBP officials mentioned that the cheetahs received comprehensive health checks and went through quarantine in South Africa. They also obtained the necessary No Objection Certificates (NoC) from the Animal Quarantine Services before the import.
