This incident has reignited discussions about the ongoing practice of dowry in India, despite strict legal restrictions. In the now-viral video, the man heard saying, “1 BMW, 1 crore, 1 lakh, 11 thousand in cash,” while several people nearby seem impressed by the announcement.
The video quickly sparked strong reactions, with many social media users condemning the public showcasing of dowry and calling for more strict enforcement of anti-dowry laws.
Dowry illegal in India since the Dowry Prohibition Act was enacted in 1961. Under this law, both giving and accepting dowry are offenses punishable by up to two years in prison and financial penalties.

However, the authenticity of the viral clip and the claims made in the post have not been verified. The video shared on X (formerly Twitter) by the account ‘yuva_aas’ and already received over 174,000 views in a short time.
The caption with the viral post said, “1 BMW, 1 crore, 1 lakh, 11 thousand in cash—the girl’s family gave to the boy as dowry. The community’s ruin starts right from here; there must be some limit to taking or giving dowry.”
