IAF with fighter jets conducts night drill on Ganga Expressway airstrip in Shahjahanpur

Shahjahanpur , The Indian Air Force correctly carried out night-time fight drills concerning fighter jets on highway airstrip on the Ganga Expressway in Shahjahanpur district, officials said Saturday.

The drill, occurs among 7 pm and 10 pm on Friday, saw fighter jets Rafale, Sukhoi, Jaguar, and Mirage-2000 simulate contact-and-cross landings and fight operations at the 3.5-kms airstrip close to Piru village under the Jalalabad Police Station limits.

Superintendent of Police Rajesh Dwivedi said, “Multiple fighter jets executed successful sorties as a part of a night operational workout. The drill concerned precision landings, coordinated take-offs, and tactical operations by jets together with Rafale, Sukhoi, Jaguar, Mirage-2000, and M-32.”

More than 250 CCTV cameras had been installed on and around the airstrip for surveillance and safety. “This guarantees safe operations and brief response in case of any untoward incidents,” he stated. Traffic was halted for almost 3 hours on the Bareilly-Etawah route that intersects the expressway even as the sorties passed off.

Drilling scheduled complete in single night

Dwivedi said that during the practice, a few fighter jets were seen landing with the assist of ropes dropped from helicopters, observed by ground tactical deployment. “Despite robust winds and unfavorable weather all through the day, the drill was completed correctly, with the night time operations proving to be smoother and more efficient,” he said. The drill was at first scheduled for two days, however IAF officials finished the whole practise in one night on Ganga Expressway.

Additional District Magistrate Arvind Kumar said, “Fighter jets made contact with the airstrip close to the VIP camp after which took off once more. Over 1,000 sanitation workers and other personnel from the Panchayati Raj Department were deployed along a 40-kms stretch to ensure no animals or obstructions entered the airstrip.”
