An Indian-American professor, Rajeshwari Iyer blames the reservation policy in India for Air India crash and sparked a heated debate online. Iyer, who studied in India, post an statement from the Airports Authority of India for air traffic management roles, with the caption, “Even the post of ‘Air Traffic Controller’ has reservations. It means freeloaders are more important than protection in India.”
The post came a day after the London flight AI 171 crashed in Ahmedabad just minutes after takeoff. Iyer also said, “Including Indian citizens, we lose many British residents too. 241 died in an aircraft crash. What a pathetic system.”
Rajeshwari Iyer slammed India reservation Policy
While many netizens supported her, others slammed her for alleged caste prejudice and for leveraging a national catastrophe to promote ideological views.
“The crash occurs because of malfunctions in the Boeing Dreamliner, which was manufactured by a USA agency due to a lack of thrust. There is no fault with the team. So chill a bit … (sic),” one user wrote on X.
Another user wrote, “Firstly, it is too early to finish anything. Also, desperately want wherein someday such good migrants and naturalised residents of other ‘first world’ international locations (whether through parents or self) like yourself, fix the flaws of this younger Indian democracy and works to ensure that it comes out of years of colonial and old ideas and depredations.”
Few X Users Decline Professor Claims
Some users also pointed to beyond air injuries involving non-reserved category candidates. They said it is tough to declare that reservation-based hiring was guilty.
Last year too, Rajeshwari Iyer, an alumnus of esteemed institutions consisting of NIT Puducherry and IIT Delhi, stirred a comparable controversy with her claim that Brahmins are the most exploited people in India.
