The mega plantation drive took place in Indore where 60000 people from different regions participated in it. Under this plantation drive Indore was successful in planting 1.1 million sapling trees in a single day which helped the city earn the Guinness World Records of planting most samplings in a day. This certificate was given to chief minister Mohan Yadav by the officials of Guiness world record and was issued to the government of Madhya Pradesh.
Indore before getting this Guinness world record of planting 1.1 million sampling trees was still known as the cleanest city in India. “Indore is now number 1 in the world. My brothers and sisters of Indore, I congratulate you all for creating history in the plantation after cleanliness,” Yadav said in a post on his official X account congratulating all of the residents of Indore by sharing the certificate of the Guinness world record.
Earlier today, Union Home Minister Amit Shah joined the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign and planted a sapling. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched this campaign on June 5 to celebrate World Environment Day. The goal is to plant about 140 crore trees nationwide, with 55 million in Madhya Pradesh alone. Shah referred to Madhya Pradesh as the “lungs of Bharat.” Indore, known as the cleanest city in India for several years, will have 51 lakh saplings planted as part of this campaign, officials said.
The Guinness World Record website states that the previous record for most saplings planted in 24 hours was 9,21,730. This record was set by the Forest Department of Assam, India. They achieved this at Udalguri on September 13 and 14, 2023.

The Importance Of This Campaign
These campaigns are very important for India for the long term if it wants to survive. As the population of India is increasing massively, the need for the trees are also increasing therefore the trees should be planted at the same rate as the population of India is increasing. This is because when the population increases the carbon dioxide production also increases as more production is done by the factory inorder to make more goods due to more population.
This increases the carbon dioxide in the air which makes the air polluted and it becomes very difficult for people to breathe in the polluted air causing several diseases such as Asthma. Therefore planting trees at the same rate as the population is increasing will allow the carbon dioxide to be taken by the tree and the tree will release the oxygen which will make the surroundings and the air fresh.
Trees are also economically valuable such as Shesam and Babul which can be used in various industries. Many trees are the raw material of the pharmaceutical industry which helps in the creation of medicine. Trees are also used in making of energy like electricity through biofuel. Therefore these campaigns will also help India economically.
