Noted influencer and creator of the “No Bindi, No Business” campaign, Shefali Vaidya, has written a letter to all board members of Lenskart Solutions Pvt. Ltd about the controversy surrounding the company’s alleged anti-Hindu uniform and grooming policy.
According to this policy, which the company has not denied, Muslim employees could wear hijabs and Sikhs could wear turbans, but there was a total ban on Hindus wearing bindis, tilaks, and kalawas.
Vaidya alleged Lenskart Anti-Hindu Grooming Policy
Vaidya stated that the grooming policy of Lenskart, which has recently received public attention, includes rules that explicitly discriminate against Hindu employees. This includes punishing the wearing of a bindi, sindoor, and kalawa, which are all religious and cultural symbols of Hinduism, while allowing hijabs for Muslim women. She argues that this is a systematic targeting of Hindu practices in the workplace.
Such a policy breaks the commitments Lenskart made to SEBI and does not align with the responsibilities of a publicly listed company toward its employees and regulators.
CEO Called Policy ‘Outdated’, Claimed Repeal on Feb 17
The CEO of Lenskart, Peyush Bansal, publicly stated that the grooming document was ‘inaccurate and outdated’ and claimed it had been repealed on February 17. However, I have dated screenshots of video audits conducted on April 5 and April 8, well after the alleged repeal date.
