Security personnel have stepped up the search for militants who engaged in an challenge of fireplace with security forces in Kathua on Sunday. Top officers, such as J&K police chief, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, joined the combing operations in the dense forests on Monday.
It is uncommon for a police chief to enroll in such an operation and this is believed to be the first time in over 30 years that J&K’s top cop has achieved so. Along with Prabhat, who set out for the search with an AK47 in hand, Inspector General of Police (Jammu Zone) Bhim Sen Tuti, DIG (Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range) Shiv Kumar Sharma, Kathua SSP Shobhit Saksena, and SP (Operation) Nasir Khan, also joined the operation.
J&K police chief starts search operation
The seek operation got here after militants, believed to have crossed the border into Saniyal village in Hiranagar area, came into contact with neighborhood citizens, who then raised the alarm. Next, security forces had a quick exchange of fireplace on Sunday night with the militants who were hiding in the forests.
Sources stated the J&K DGP arrived on the spot on Sunday nighttime and stayed until middle of the night, before returning the following morning to join the search events. According to police, 5-6 militants are believed to be hiding in the forests. The village remained annoying with security forces appealing to peoples to live indoors.
AK47 in hand
The J&K police chief has AK47 in hand. The International Border along Kathua district has emerged as a main infiltration path for militants from Pakistan to the higher reaches of the Kailash tri-junction connecting Udhampur, Doda and Kishtwar districts. Last year, five squaddies had been killed after militants attacked an Army convoy close to Badnota village in Kathua.
