Due to strong winds and snowfall in the southern districts of Kashmir, both air and ground transportation were significantly impacted on Friday.
Reports from Anantnag, Pulwama, Kulgam, and Shopian indicated that snowfall occurred overnight and continued throughout the day.
Kashmir Snowfall Disrupts Traffic
In Srinagar, Ganderbal, and other areas in the central and northern districts, rain fell overnight, while snowfall began in Srinagar city in the morning.
Snow accumulation at Srinagar International Airport disrupted flights to and from the Valley. Snow clearance machines sent to clear the runway.
Heavy snowfall on both sides of the Navyug tunnel led authorities to suspend traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway.
Travellers recommend to postponed plan
Travelers advised to postpone their plans for the day and wait for updates from the authorities before continuing their journeys. Strong winds caused disruptions in the Valley, with roofs blown off in many locations.
There was significant damage to the electricity department’s transmission lines. Power remained out in many parts of Srinagar city and most rural areas. Engineers reported that their field staff was working continuously to restore the main 33 KV transmission line that supplies electricity from outside the Valley.
People were advised to avoid uprooted electric poles, hanging power lines, and other dangerous areas.
