Kavinder Gupta appointed as new Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh

The Rashtrapati Bhavan announces the appointment of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kavinder Gupta as the new Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh. In an official communication, it said that the President of India has announce the resignation of Brigadier (Dr.) BD Mishra (Retd.) post.

The President of India has usual the resignation of Brig. (Dr.) BD Mishra (Retd.) as Lieutenant Governor of Union Territory. President Murmu has also announces the appointment of Asim Kumar Ghosh as the governor of Haryana and former Union Minister Ashok Gajapati Raju as the governor of Goa.

Who Is Kavinder Gupta?

Born on December 2, 1959, Kavinder Gupta joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at age 13. He received early political prominence in Jammu, serving 3 consecutive terms as mayor from 2005 to 2010. In 2014, Gupta was elected MLA from the Gandhinagar constituency and made records because the first BJP Speaker of the J&K Assembly (March 2015–April 2018)

In April 2018, Gupta became Deputy Chief Minister in the PDP–BJP coalition under Mehbooba Mufti. He resigned just 51 days later, on June 19, 2018, after the BJP withdrew from the alliance.
