London heathrow airport on Friday stated that it will continue to be shut for as a minimum 24 hours after a fire at a close-by electric substation caused a large strength outage. All arrival and departure flights to the airport have been cancelled.
The blaze was first stated round 11:30 pm (5 am IST) on Thursday, and then firefighters have been alerted. The airport introduced its closure at 2 am (7:30 am IST) on Friday.
“Due to a fire at an electrical substation providing the airport, Heathrow is experiencing a enormous electricity outage. To keep the safety of our passengers and co-workers, Heathrow could be closed till 23h59 on 21 March. Passengers are cautioned not to travel to the airport and must contact their airline for similarly facts. We apologise for the inconvenience,” announced Heathrow Airport.
London heathrow airport Flights affected from India to Heathrow
Following the declaration, Air India said that its flight en direction to London’s Heathrow from Mumbai is returning while as every other flight en path to London from Delhi has been diverted to Germany’s Frankfurt. All the other flights certain for London’s Heathrow for March 21 had been cancelled, Air India similarly stated.
“Our operations to and from London Heathrow (LHR) were disrupted following the transient suspension of operations at the airport till 23h59 London time of 21 March, after a large power outage. Consequently, London Heathrow-bound AI129 from Mumbai is returning to Mumbai; AI161 from Delhi is diverting to Frankfurt.
Air India statement
All our final London heathrow airport flights, which include AI111 of this morning, were cancelled for 21 March. We will replace about resumption of operations as soon as we’ve more records. Flights to London Gatwick continue to be unaffected, said Air India in its assertion.
