Mahakumbh 2025: Western Railway introduces 98 special trains to ensure easy travel for devotees

As preparations for Mahakumbh 2025 are underway, Western Railway has introduced 98 special trains to ensure easy travel for millions of devotees. PRO of Ahmedabad Division Railway Ajay Solanki confirmed this, saying measures are in place for passenger comfort, hygiene, and proper functioning of electric appliances.

The Mahakumbh religious congregation, the biggest congregation happening once every 12 years, is likely to fetch more than 45 crore pilgrims to Prayagraj. To tackle such an unprecedented rush, Indian Railways has decided to run more than 10,000 trains, among which 3,300 trains have been particularly marked as special trains.

Multifaceted Arrangements for Crowd Regulation Including Special Trains for Mahakumbh 2025

Dilip Kumar, Executive Director of Information and Publicity at the Railway Board, hinted at measures that are being taken to manage the crowd. Including color-coded waiting zones and holding areas at big stations for all unreserved passengers, is one measure being taken.

To achieve this objective, Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) teams are stationed at major stations. These teams will provide guidance to passengers and supervise the safe boarding of their trains from demarcated areas.

Sacred Rituals and Key Bathing Dates

Mahakumbh 2025 will be celebrated at the place where the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati confluence, is commonly known as the Sangam. According to beliefs, a holy dip here washes away all the sins and helps attain moksha.

The main bathing rituals, or Shahi Snans, are planned on important dates: Makar Sankranti, on January 14, Mauni Amavasya-January 29, and Basant Panchami-Feb 3. All of them are likely to attract large masses, so smooth rail transport will decide the success of such a function.

Indian Railways has elaborate preparations in place, marking its resolve to provide a hassle-free, safe journey to the pilgrims in this sacred season.
