Mamata Banerjee is very upset with party MLA Humayun Kabir’s proposal to build a copy of the Babri Mosque in Murshidabad, according to sources. She and her party do not support the mosque proposal, and this message has conveyed to the MLA.
At a press conference, Bengal minister Bratya Basu said, “The party leadership is handling the issue regarding MLA Humayun Kabir. The MLA frequently changes his views. Tomorrow, we expect him to attend the Chief Minister’s event in Baharampore.”
Why Mamata Banerjee upset with MLA
Banerjee will hold a rally in Murshidabad, a district on the India-Bangladesh border to protest the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of voter lists. Sources shows that the party has invited Humayun Kabir, who represents the Bharatpur constituency, and he is likely to join the rally.
However, the MLA emphasized his aim to lay the foundation stone for the Babri Mosque copy in Beldanga, Murshidabad, on December 6. Sources noted that Bengal Governor Ananda Bose has questioned the state government. He asked why Humayun Kabir has not arrested if his statements are causing a law-and-order issue.
Will Murshidabad become a hub of controversy?
“The reports I have received from the field, intelligence agencies, and local opinion leaders shows that someone is trying to turn Murshidabad into a hub of controversy. This will not allowed,” he said. The Governor highlighted that this is not just about building a place of worship. If communal feelings are inflamed, the state and its government “will not remain silent.”
The administration in Murshidabad is already on high alert. A district leader of the Trinamool Congress described the MLA’s actions as “a whole drama” meant to pressure the party for an election ticket from Rejinagar in Murshidabad. The leader noted that Humayun Kabir has pressured the party for a preferred seat before, but the circumstances are challenging this time.
