Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for projects worth Rs 34,200 crore in Bhavnagar, Gujarat. He said, “India’s ports are the backbone of the nation’s rise as a global maritime powerhouse.” He mentioned that the government made a historic decision to boost the maritime sector by recognizing large ships as infrastructure.

He added, “Chips or ships, we must make them in India.” He pointed out that India spends Rs 6 lakh crore each year to foreign companies for shipping goods worldwide. It is equal to the defense budget. He noted that 50 years ago, 40 % of the country’s trade carried by Indian-made ships. But that figure has dropped to 5 %.
“Congress suppressed the natural talent of Indians by imposing restrictions like the license raj,” he said. He emphasized that there is only one solution to all of India’s problems, and that is atmanirbharta (self-reliance). “The main enemy of India is the dependence on other countries.”
People appreciate PM Modi for GST Reforms
While addressing the rally, PM Modi remarked, “I come to Bhavnagar at a time when the holy festival of Navratri is coming. This time, due to the reduced GST rates, the markets will be more vibrant.”
Earlier that day, Modi held a roadshow in Bhavnagar in Gujarat, starting from the airport and concluding at Gandhi Maidan, where his public meeting took place. Crowds gathered along both sides of the road to welcome him with flowers. Dance troupes performed on stages set up along the route. Banners about Operation Sindoor and posters thanking him for GST reforms lined the way.
