The prime minister began by recalling his recent visit to Somnath Swabhiman Parv, where people from all over India gathered to celebrate a thousand years of cultural resilience. He was touched by their appreciation for these platforms that showcase India’s diverse heritage.
PM express his connection to Kashi-Tamil Sangamam cultural ties
In his post for Pongal, Modi expressed his personal connection to Tamil culture, mentioning his regret for not having learned Tamil. He explained how the Sangamam brings together cultures, highlighting the shared roots and emotional ties between Kashi (Varanasi) and Tamil Nadu. This bond is based on centuries of spiritual exchange and literary history, including the influence of the Tamil poet Subramania Bharati in Kashi.
Kasha connection with Tamil
“Kashi’s connection with Tamil people and culture is very deep. Baba Vishwanath resides in Kashi, while Tamil Nadu has Rameswaram. Tenkasi in Tamil Nadu is known as Kashi of the south or DakshinKashi. Saint Kumar aguruparar Swamigal created a lasting link between Kashi and Tamil Nadu through his spirituality, scholarship, and building institutions. Mahakavi Subramania Bharati, one of Tamil Nadu’s greatest figures, found in Kashi a place for intellectual growth and spiritual awakening. It was here that his nationalism deepened, his poetry sharpened, and his vision of a free, united India became clearer. Many such instances highlight this close bond.”
