The Mumbai-Vijaydurg Ro-Ro Ferry service, launched by the Maharashtra Maritime Board great response from residents of the Konkan region. Bookings were almost full on the first day. The service officially inaugurated at Bhaucha Dhakka in Mumbai. Fisheries and Ports Minister Nitesh Rane lead the ceremony, after which the vessel will begin its first journey to Vijaydurg.
Mumbai-Vijaydurg Ro-Ro Ferry Launched
This service is Asia’s fastest M2M Ro-Ro water transport option. The modern vessel can carry around 626 passengers and many vehicles. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis emphasized the project’s importance, stating that the ferry cover the Mumbai-Vijaydurg distance in just six to seven hours. It will provide a safe, comfortable, and scenic sea trip along the Konkan coastline.
CM mentioned that this service would mark a new chapter in Maharashtra’s maritime transport history. It will significantly cut down road traffic and enhance coastal connectivity and infrastructure development.
Boost tourism and local trade
Minister Nitesh Rane highlighted the sustained efforts that made this ambitious project a reality. He noted that the strong public response shows the long-standing need for quicker connections between Mumbai and the Konkan region. He believes the service will help boost tourism, local trade, and job opportunities in coastal areas.
According to booking details, the economy category has the highest demand, while premium, business, and first-class categories have also received strong reservations. Ticket prices range from ₹3,000 to ₹9,000. In addition to passengers, there has been a considerable number of bookings for four-wheelers and two-wheelers, highlighting the increasing need for an efficient travel alternative between Mumbai and Konkan.
