Nagpur Police on Wednesday arrested Fahim Shamim Khan, a nearby chief of the Minorities Democratic Party (MDP), recognized as the Nagpur violence mastermind that erupted in the town on March 17, leaving numerous people injured.
Khan’s arrest got only in hours after his name became covered in an FIR registered at Ganeshpeth Police Station. Before in the day, police released his image and a video showing Khan allegedly turning in an inflammatory speech moments before the violence broke out.

Fahim Khan, 38-years -old chief, who is the city president of the MDP and a resident of Sanjay Bagh Colony in Yashodhara Nagar, has been remanded to police custody till March 21.
According to senior police officers, initial investigations and the video proof shows Khan’s provocative speech quickly crate tensions, triggering clashes among groups in the city.
Fahim Khan contested the 2024 Lok Sabha election from the Nagpur constituency, representing the Minorities Democratic Party. Notably, he ran towards senior BJP chief and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, but misplaced by a huge margin of over 6.Five lakhs votes.
Where the Violence occurs
Violence flared in Nagpur’s Chitnis Park area on Monday as clashes broke out over rumours by Nagpur violence mastermind for removing Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s tomb in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The unrest fast escalated, with mobs pelting stones at police, leaving 34 personnel injured.
A complaint was lodged against the protesters after the agitation, accusing them of hurting the religious sentiments of a community. Based on the grievance, an FIR was registered. Notably, no arrests have been made thus far.
Meanwhile, a senior legitimate stated that the law and order situation in Nagpur is under control, but a curfew maintains in many sensitive areas of the town. Another reputable told to media that more than 2,000 armed police employees had been deployed in the sensitive areas.
