Nitin Gadkari Predicts EV Prices to Match Petrol Cars in India Within 4-6 Months

Nitin Gadkari, the minister of road transport and highways, said that prices of electric vehicles will be similar to those of petrol and diesel vehicles in the next four to six months. Speaking at a Ficci event, Gadkari noted, “When I launched electric vehicles, the battery cost was $150 per KW hour. Today it’s $55 to $65 per kilowatt hour.

I believe that in the coming four to six months, electric scooters, electric cars, and electric buses will match petrol and diesel prices.” Gadkari mentioned that he urged tractor makers and agricultural researchers in a meeting to speed up work on clean energy equipment. He emphasized the need to develop electric tractors and engines that operate on ethanol, CNG, or isobutanol as part of India’s larger self-reliance effort. He added that these innovations could help lower diesel imports and pollution while increasing rural incomes.
