PM Modi on Friday officially inaugurate Vizhinjam International Deep Seaport in Kerala, hailing it as a transformative task for the state. The Rs 8,867 crore deepwater port, advanced by the Adani Group, targets to reduce India’s reliance on overseas ports for transport. “75% of transshipment conducts outdoor India. Now, the budget used for this could live in India,” the PM said.
PM Modi give speech on inauguration
During his speech at the inauguration occasion, in a mild-hearted second, the Prime Minister joked around Adani’s Gujarat roots. “I simply visited the port. But when the people of Gujarat check the fact that Gautam Adani has built such a best port in Kerala, Gujarat has been working on ports for 30 years. But not means has he built a port like this. So he should be equipped to face the anger of the people of Gujarat,” he quipped. He began his speech in Malayalam, announcing, “Extremely happy to be in the land of Sree Ananthapadmanabhan once more.”
He arrived at the port by helicopter and toured the centers sporting a hard hat, inaugurated the first phase of the port in the presence of Kerala Governor Rajendra Arlekar, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani, and Congress MP Shashi Tharoor.
