A minor fire broke out in the lavatory of the Daund-Pune train on Monday morning after a passenger allegedly threw a cigarette in a dustbin there. It cause panic among passengers, police said. A 55-year-old person, who prima-facie appeared to mentally unstable detained in Pune Train Fire incident and passed over to police, a railway spokesperson said. No person injured in the incident that occurs near Yavat in Pune district at around 8 am, an reports said.
Pune Train Fire Occurs due to Cigarette
The train held up at Yavat station for about 20 mins due to the incident, as per railway officers. The train service operates daily among Daund town and Pune city. It covered a distance of almost 75 km and passing by 7 stations in between.
As per initial data, a passenger from Madhya Pradesh allegedly threw a ‘bidi’ (cigarette) into a dustbin of the Daund-Pune DEMU (Diesel Electric Multiple Unit) train after smoking, that caused the incident, the police official said.
Passengers in panic over fire
“The Pune Train Fire incident occurs round 8 am. There had been papers and different trash in the bin, which caught fire, ensuing in smoke billowing from the bathroom and causing panic amongst passengers,” the official said.
There were only some passengers in that train, he said. The fire quickly extinguished and no person injured in the incident, the official said. Railway officials said the train face a 20-minute detention at the Yavat station.
