Punjab Floods 2025: 29 dead, Thousands lose homes in a week

There are 29 people died and thousands have been lost their homes in Punjab Floods 2025. The situation is so worst that PM Modi called Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday after returning to Delhi from China to assess the crisis.

Heavy rain and water release from dams have flooded more than 10 districts. In August, Punjab recorded 253.7 mm of rainfall, which is 74 % above normal and the highest amount in 25 years. Mann warned that conditions could get worse in the coming days.

Latest Update on Punjab Floods 2025

PM Modi spoke to Mann on Monday evening, marking the first official communication from the Centre since the floods began a week ago. An official told news agency PTI, “PM has assured him of all help and support to the state.”

Over 1,300 villages across Punjab are submerged, and 6,582 people stay in 122 relief camps, according to official data. The hardest-hit districts include Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Fazilka, Kapurthala, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Hoshiarpur, and Amritsar.

Sutlej, Beas and Ravi Rivers Overflowed with Water

The Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi rivers, along with seasonal rivulets, have overflowed due to heavy rain in the hill states. In some areas, the Ravi has expanded to more than ten times its normal width. This has submerged houses, destroyed large areas of farmland, and lost thousands of families.

So far, the NDRF, Army, BSF, and district authorities have rescued 14,936 people from flooded areas. Drones used to deliver water, milk powder, and dry rations to villages that cut off from access due to Punjab Floods 2025 in Ajnala.

Hoshiarpur has severely affected, with floodwaters entering homes in several villages on Monday. Many families fear their homes might collapse and have taken shelter in tractor-trolleys, avoiding relief camps to stay close to their land and livestock.
