Congress leader Rahul Gandhi met with auto-rickshaw drivers in central Delhi on Friday. He shared lunch with them during an informal gathering to understand the challenges faced by transport workers in the national capital. Rahul Gandhi spent about thirty minutes at Todarmal Road near Bengali Market, where he spoke with drivers at Todarmal Park.
He listened to their concerns about rising expenses, high fuel prices, and dropping earnings. The Congress MP had lunch with one of the drivers as part of this outreach.

The gathering at Todarmal Park, a busy area for local transport workers and commuters, allowed Rahul Gandhi to engage in conversations about the daily struggles and financial pressures affecting the transport sector.
This visit comes as commercial vehicle operators in Delhi and nearby areas have been voicing concerns about increasing operational costs and the lack of fare adjustments.
Participate in public outreach efforts earlier
Rahul Gandhi has often conducted similar public outreach efforts over the years. He has met with workers, laborers, delivery personnel, and drivers to discuss issues related to their livelihoods.
The meeting also came just days after transport unions across Delhi and the National Capital Region held a large strike from May 21 to May 23. This protest disrupted various public transport services, including cabs and auto-rickshaws, causing inconvenience for commuters in the NCR. More than 68 transport unions took part in the “chakka jam” protest organized by the All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) and the United Front of All Transport Associations (UFTA).
