A massive fire that broke out at Rituraj Hotel in Kolkata’s Mechuapatti place on Tuesday night time (April 29) claimed 14 lives, along with a women and kids, police officials said. A senior officer of Kolkata police showed that 11 of the victims were men, with eight recognized to this point. 13 others sustained injuries in the incident.
The blaze erupted at about 7:30 pm when the hotel was occupied by 88 visitors across 42 rooms, the officer added. The fire was brought under control after almost 8 hours of firefighting, with ten fire tenders deployed to the scene.
People Jump from windows to save from Rituraj Hotel Fire
Visuals from the incident showed desperate tries by some occupants to escape, with various people hiking out of windows and clinging to narrow ledges. Two people have been injured after jumping from the 4th floor to escape the fire, as per reports.
“The early reports stated 14 casualties, but after verification, the number has been. That is the confirmed we’ve in the meantime,” Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Kumar Verma said. He also said that Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to control the incident.
Why Fire Incident occurs
“The reason of the fire couldn’t be ascertained. Our forensic team will conduct research on the construction. It has been revealed, police officer said.” Investigation continue and Rituraj Hotel fire incident premises are sealed by authorities.
