Hindu Man Lynched in Bangladesh, Taslima Nasreen Breaks Silence
Exiled Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasreen recounts her childhood experiences of sexual abuse and religious oppression. She shared a number of events that she claims reveal how even the police may have played a role in Das’s lynching.
In her post on X, Taslima Nasreen wrote, “Dipu Chandra Das worked at a factory in Bhaluka, Mymensingh. He was a poor laborer. One day, a Muslim coworker wanted to punish him over a trivial matter. In front of a crowd, he claimed that Dipu had made offensive remarks about the Prophet. That was enough. Frenzied followers of the Prophet attacked Dipu like hyenas and began to tear him apart. Eventually, the police saved him and took him into custody, which meant Dipu was under police protection.”
Claims of Police Inaction and Alleged Jihadist Mob Lynching of Dipu
“Dipu told the police what had happened. He said that he was innocent, that he had made no comments at all about the Prophet. It was all a setup by that coworker. The police did not pursue the coworker,” she said, suggesting that many in the police force have a “fondness for jihad.”
Questioning the police’s role, she asked, “Was it a result of this jihadist zeal that they sent Dipu back to those fans? Or did jihadist militants push the police aside and take Dipu out of the station? They celebrated fully, beating Dipu, hanging him, burning him, a jihadist festival.”
