The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) has announced a 10 % Fuel and Power Purchase Adjustment Surcharge (FPPAS) on electricity bills for June. This change will impact consumers in all categories across the state.
Electricity bills rise 10% in Uttar Pradesh
The surcharge meant to recover the extra costs faced for power procurement and transmission, as set by regulations from the Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission. According to a order issued on May 29, the 10 % increase for March reflected in the electricity bills for June. This decision means consumers will see an extra charge on their monthly power bills as part of the fuel surcharge adjustment process.
The Fuel and Power Purchase Adjustment Surcharge applied to help distribution companies manage changes in fuel prices and the rising costs of buying electricity from different sources.
Fuel Surcharge led price increase
This update comes at a time when many areas in Uttar Pradesh are experiencing long and widespread power outages due to a severe heatwave, with temperatures exceeding 45 degrees Celsius in several districts.
The rising temperatures have led to a significant increase in electricity use. Households, businesses, and industries are heavily dependent on cooling devices and other electrical equipment to deal with the extreme weather.
As a result, electricity demand in the state has surged sharply, rising by nearly 5,000 MW compared to previous years.
