Ten days after his disappearance, the body of journalist Rajeev Pratap Singh was found in a barrage in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. His family claims foul play and states he faced threats due to his reporting.
Dead body of Rajeev Pratap Singh found in River
Rajeev Pratap Singh, a 36-year-old journalist from Uttarkashi, ran the YouTube channel Delhi Uttarakhand Live. He went missing on the night of September 18. His wife, Muskan, told the media that she spoke to him around 11 p.m. that night. After that, he became unreachable. She said he had been feeling anxious about his recent reports on a district hospital and a school. She alleged that locals were intimidating him over a video he posted on September 16.
Murder Threats to Journalist
“Many people were calling him, threatening to kill him if the videos were not taken down. At 11:50 p.m., I sent a message, and it went undelivered. He was kidnapped by someone. I am sure he did not just fall off the road,” she said. The family filed a missing person report, noting that Rajeev had left for Gangori-Bhatwari and had not come back.
“ Rajeev Pratap Singh is a well-known journalist from Uttarkashi. Many people in the area have grudges against him. We fear that something bad may have happened. Please help us find him as soon as possible,” the complaint said. However, the police claim that Rajeev dead in accident. Superintendent of Police Sarita Dobhal said that his car probably fell into the Bhagirathi River, which was swollen at the time. The vehicle was recovered on September 19, but the body was found at Joshiyara Barrage on Sunday.
