Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 mobile platform at the Qualcomm Snapdragon Tech Summit 2023, as well as the Snapdragon X Elite PC chipset and the S7 and S7 Pro Gen 1 sound platforms.
Samsung, OnePlus, Xiaomi and more showcased the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset at the event, which will be used in the next-generation flagship smartphones. Xiaomi’s 14 series is set to be the first smartphone to be launched by smartphone makers.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 specifications-android new AI feautures
Several improvements have been made to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. An improved performance and 20% improved power efficiency are claimed for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, which is powered by a new Kryo CPU with five gold processors.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has a prime core clocked at 3.3 GHz, five performance cores clocked at 3.2 GHz, and two efficiency cores clocked at 2.3 GHz.
The CPU isn’t the only component that has been upgraded. It’s Qualcomm’s Adreno GPU has also improved, which offers 25% faster performance and 25% longer battery life. The GPU will also support variable refresh rates for lower power display modes.
Gamers get a boost-new AI features
The GPU offers 40% improved ray tracing, which is being added to premium smartphone games.
Among the features of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is the Snapdragon Elite Gaming suite, which includes multi-source lighting and hardware-accelerated ray tracing, the first of its kind on a mobile device. As it supports 240 frames per second on 240 Hz displays, gaming phones may also be able to use it.
With Snapdragon Game Super Resolution, game scenes can be upscaled to 8K external displays.
A boost for AI
According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is its first mobile platform meticulously designed with generative AI in mind.
Qualcomm’s AI engine powers the chipset, which supports multi-modal generative AI models, including large language models (LLM) and language vision models (LVM).
How does generative AI work?
It is a type of technology that creates new and original content, like text, images, videos, and more, by learning patterns from existing data.
There are several ML techniques are used in generative AI, including deep learning, neural networks, and reinforcement learning.
Using Meta’s Llama 2, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 supports a chatbot trained to accept voice, text, and image inputs and to respond to users.
You can generate images in less than a second with Stable Diffusion, which is supported by the chipset.
Qualcomm Technologies senior vice president and general manager of mobile handsets Chris Patrick said, “This platform unlocks a new era of generative AI for users.”
Sensing Hub from Qualcomm- android new AI features
In addition to Qualcomm Sensing Hub, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset also provides information to the AI engine. Additionally, the hub will provide the AI engine with information about your age, location, fitness level, and favorite activities, enabling personalised responses.
