26/11 attacks mastermind, Tahawwur Rana sent to 12-day NIA custody

A Delhi court on Monday granted a plea of the National Investigation Agency in search of custody of 26/11 Mumbai attack accused Tahawwur Rana for 12 days. He was released before unique NIA judge Chander Jit Singh on the expiry of his 18-day NIA custody amid tight security and together with his face covered.

Arguments for custody were given by senior advocate Dayan Krishnan and unique public prosecutor Narender Mann, who represented the NIA in an in-chamber proceeding. Advocate Piyush Sachdeva from the Delhi Legal Services Authority (DLSA) is representing him in the case.

Tahawwur Rana in NIA Custody

During the arguments, the NIA said his custody was required to piece together the overall scope of the conspiracy and submitted that he was required to be taken to various places to retrace the activities that happened 17 years in the past. Last time, the court room had remanded him to NIA custody for 18 days, at the expiry of which he was produced for next orders. In its last order, the decision directed the NIA to behavior a medical test every 24 hours and allow him to fulfill his attorney every day.

The decision allowed Tahawwur Rana to apply only a “tender-tip pen” and meet his attorney in the presence of the NIA officers, who could be out of audible distance.
