In every other major reshuffle, the Supreme Court Collegium has advised transfer of chief justices of the high courts of Rajasthan, Tripura, Jharkhand and Madras. The decision taken at a meeting of the collegium, headed by Chief Justice BR Gavai, on May 26.
Supreme Court recommends transfer of HC Judges
SC recommended that Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava transferred from Rajasthan to the Madras High Court, Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh from Tripura to the Telangana High Court, Justice MS Ramachandra Rao from Jharkhand to the Tripura High Court, and Justice KR Shriram from Madras to Rajasthan High Court. During main shake-up in the higher judiciary, SC recommended the transfer of 21 judges from 10 high courts.
What behind transfer
The SC also mention the names of Karnataka High Court Chief Justice NV Anjaria, Gauhati Chief Justice Vijay Bishnoi, and Justice Atul Chandurkar of the Bombay High Court to move to the SC. If the guidelines authorised, the Supreme Court can be back to its full power of 34 judges. It is currently functioning with 31.
While Justices NV Anjaria and AS Chandurkar are predicted to serve for slightly less than 5 years, Justice Vijay Bishnoi also have a shorter tenure if the Centre offers its nod to the appointments. SC also advised the names of five judges for appointment as new leader justices in the high courts of Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Gauhati, Patna and Jharkhand.
