The problem has cause to Indian Premier League (IPL) founder Lalit Modi, after Vanuatu government cancels his passport. They claims that he attempts to escape extradition don’t qualify as a legitimate reason to avail citizenship in the South Pacific Ocean country. The billionaire fugitive is wanted in India, due to alleged financial irregularities. Earlier, the Lalit Modi filed an application with Indian High Commission in London to surrender his Indian passport.
Vanuatu Prime Minister Jotham Napat asked the country’s Citizenship Commission to cancel the passport issued to Lalit, after recent revelations in international media”, as per reports.
All background tests performed for Lalit Modi
“While all background tests, which includes Interpol screenings, carried out in the course of his application showed no crook convictions, I have been made aware in the beyond 24 hours that Interpol two times rejected Indian authorities’ requests to trouble an alert note on Mr Modi because of loss of considerable judicial evidence. Any such alert could have precipitated an automated rejection of Mr Modi’s citizenship application,” Prime Minister Napat stated.
He focus that retaining a Vanuatu passport is a privilege, now not a right, and applicants need to seek citizenship for legitimate reasons. “None of these valid reasons consist of attempting to keep away from extradition, which the recent data introduced to mild genuinely indicate was Mr Modi’s goal,” he added.
Vanuatu authorities rejects passport due to security concerns
