FIFA World Cup 2022: Will France Defend Its Title?

FIFA World Cup 2022

Four years have passed, and anticipation around the world is rising: the FIFA World Cup 2022 will kick off in Qatar on November 20.

As the biggest event on the international football calendar, the world cup will see the best teams from around the globe face off on the pitch in the Middle East and fight for the coveted trophy and title.

France is the reigning champion and will return to the pitch to defend its title this year. Will they be the third nation ever to win the title in two consecutive events? According to the newest odds, the defending champion is not the only top favorite to lift the trophy.

The football tournament is around the corner

Football fans around the globe are counting the days: on November 20, 2022, the FIFA World Cup will kick off in Qatar, lasting roughly one month until the new world champion is crowned. 32 of the best national teams from around the world will gather in Qatar to fight for the coveted trophy.

The Indian national team didn’t earn a ticket to the world cup during qualifiers, but the next world cup taking place in 2026 could be their run, as it will be the first to feature 48 teams to allow for more nations to take part in the coveted event.

Indian fans, however, are still excited about the approaching tournament that will showcase world-class football with the best teams and players in the world.

Who will be the one to lift the trophy on December 18? Bookmakers have been watching closely to analyse performances and calculate odds for the upcoming tournament.

For now, most bookmakers agree that France has a good chance to defend its title, but a powerful contender from South America is currently ranked as the number one favourite.

The reigning champion returns to the pitch

The days approaching the world cup are winding down, and France’s chance to prove it deserves the world title once again is getting closer.

Les Bleus will travel to Qatar with a strong team, boasting young talent and experienced star players. Star forward Kylian Mbappé is without a doubt one of the top 10 best football players in the world and already helped the French team come out at the top in 2018.

He has only grown stronger within the last four years and has even gone on to win the UEFA Nations League with the national team in 2021. Didier Deschamps’ team brings the best prerequisites to the table to defend its title.

However, given the history of defending champions, it’s rare for a team to lift the trophy in two consecutive world cups.

Should they win once again, they would only be the third team after Italy in 1938 and Brazil in 1962 to do so. Experts currently see Les Bleus in the second position among the top favourites for the title.

Brazil is chasing its 6th title win

At the moment, Brazil is seen by many as the top favourite for this year’s world cup. With five world titles under its belt, no team has won a world cup more times, and the team around star player Neymar is set on earning its sixth title this year.

Coach Tite is travelling to Qatar with an immensely strong roster: Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar, one of the best players in the world, Liverpool’s goalkeeper Alisson Becker, one of the strongest in his position, and up-and-coming left-winger Vini Jr. of Real Madrid, among others, make Brazil’s team a force to watch out for.

With a solid qualifying performance and ending up in first place in the CONMEBOL Libertadores, Brazil is currently seen as the strongest top favourite to make it all the way. It would be their first win after two decades, as they haven’t won a world cup since their 2002 victory.

The countdown to the biggest sports event of the year has started, and the best teams from around the globe are gearing up to travel to Qatar. The FIFA World Cup 2022 will kick off on November 20, on December 18 we will find out who will win bragging rights and the coveted trophy for the next four years.
