The Bihar Special Task Force arrested RJD leader Deva Gupta during a raid at a residential apartment in the Patliputra police station area of Patna. Gupta, who bounty of ₹1 lakh taken into custody from Flat No. 301 of Radhika Apartment following a tip-off.
RJD Leader Deva Gupta Detained in Patna
Officials said that an STF team conducted the operation based on specific intelligence. Gupta is the husband of Motihari Municipal Corporation Mayor Preeti Kumari and named as the RJD candidate for Motihari in the 2025 Assembly elections. His arrest has sparked strong political reactions in Bihar.
PreetiKumari told the media that the STF briefly detained her for questioning before releasing her. She accused them of harassment, noting that two cases against her husband stayed by the court while he is on bail in other cases.
Intelligence-Based STF Operation
Deva Gupta was on a “hit list” of 100 criminals created by the Motihari police as part of a crime control effort. This list included alleged liquor mafias, land grabbers, and people accused of murder and robbery. Police records show that Gupta faces 28 criminal cases, including serious charges like murder, extortion, and illegal land grabbing. In two cases, he had been absconding for a long time.
About two months ago, the Patna High Court granted Gupta interim relief, staying any coercive action against him and the announcement of the ₹1 lakh reward till hearing on his anticipatory bail plea finished. Following this order, police action against him slowed.
