The Mahayuti alliance of the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP won the Maharashtra elections for 288 municipal councils and nagar panchayats. They secure 207 posts of local body presidents.
This strong performance by the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP limited the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi to a combined total of 44, according to the final numbers from the State Election Commission.
BJP won in Maharashtra in alliance
The SEC reported that the BJP won 117 municipal president posts, Shiv Sena claimed 53, and NCP earned 37. Congress secured 28, while NCP (SP) got seven and Shiv Sena (UBT) captured nine. Registered parties received four seats, and unrecognised parties took 28 municipal president seats. Independents won five seats.
The Opposition, including Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT), accused the Election Commission of helping the Mahayuti win. Congress also warned the BJP’s allies. “The BJP’s success is a wake-up call for Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar. The BJP will definitely expel these two allies,” stated state Congress president Harsh Vardhan Sapkal.
Amit shah thanks to people to vote
In a post on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter, Union minister and BJP strategist Amit Shah thanked the people, saying the victory is a blessing for the vision of the NDA governments, led by Modi, for the welfare of all sections of society. PM Modi also expressed gratitude to the people of Maharashtra.
“We are pleased to fulfilled the trust shown in us by Modiji’s positivity and our leaders Amit Shahji, Naddaji, and Navinji,” said CM Devendra Fadnavis.
“For the first time, I did not criticise any leader or party, did not make accusations, but explained my plans. I campaigned completely positively. It paid off. The people approved it,” he added.
