As Delhi gets ready to vote in a decisive electoral battle’s polling day, the authorities have increased security across the Union TerritoryD
Extensive Security Measures in Place for Delhi Polling Day
To secure the voting process, more than 42,000 personnel of the Delhi Police will be on duty, in addition to 150 companies of the Central Armed Police Force and 70 extra companies from the armed forces of ten states. Before the election, security has been intensified at 43 border checkpoints and more than 100 small entry points, with a static surveillance team making tough checks.
The deployment of drones has been done at sensitive polling stations, while joint patrolling is being conducted with neighboring states. Special CP (Crime) and Election Cell In-Charge Devesh Chandra Srivastava assured that all necessary pre-poll measures have been undertaken.
“All Delhi Police personnel are committed to ensuring free, fair, and peaceful elections. Extensive security arrangements have been made, and strict vigilance will be maintained throughout the process,” Srivastava stated.
Crackdown on Illegal Activities
After releasing the official notice of the polls, the authorities intensified their crackdown on electoral malpractices. Delhi Police has so far seized 196 kg of narcotics worth ₹78 crores and made a haul of 1,008 litres of illicit liquor. More than 3,000 polling booths have been declared sensitive, with additional security arrangements at all these booths.
Recently, Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora held a conference for high officials and law enforcement personnel from surrounding states to strategize security measures. The capital has been covered by over 600 flying squads and paradropped units, while district-level officers are tasked with identifying polling centers at high risk.
AI Election Monitoring
Delhi Police is using artificial intelligence for the first time to improve election security. AI-based systems will feed real-time information to police and CRPF personnel about Election Commission protocols.
Preventive action has been taken against nearly 30,000 individuals with prior offences, and 85% of pending non-bailable warrants have been executed to ensure law and order.
