Gupta, 50 won the Shalimar Bagh seat in Delhi Assembly election, with total 30,000 votes. She uses the tagline, “Kaam hi Pehchaan,” on her website on campaigns. She was one of the Delhi BJP leaders who were seen as frontrunners for the post of CM. Parvesh Verma is also a frontrunner who defeated Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi BJP general secretary Ashish Sood, former Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta, Satish Upadhyay, and Jitendra Mahajan are also some of the contenders. Gupta with six ministers will take oath in Ramlila Maidan in Delhi in noon today.

Rekha Gupta is announce as Delhi New CM. She is a former mayor of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC). She was pitted by the BJP as MCD mayoral candidate against AAP leader Shelly Oberoi in 2022
Rekha Gupta is the National Vice President of the BJP Party, BJP Mahila Morcha. She served as general secretary of the BJP previously.
Why BJP choose Rekha over Pravesh Verma
BJP makes Rekha Gupta the Delhi CM to build a legacy of women chief ministers. They want to show AAP’s stint as a contrast and aberration. Delhi is a string of women CM, consists the 15-year rule of Congress’s Sheila Dikshit. The other women CMs in Delhi were AAP’s Atishi and BJP’s Sushma Swaraj.
