Indian opener Abhishek Sharma set a new world record by reaching 931 rating points in the latest ICC T20I batting rankings update on Wednesday, October 1, 2025. He earned this record rating after a stylish half-century in India’s semi-final win over Sri Lanka at the Asia Cup. This performance pushed him past the previous rating of 919 points, which England’s Dawid Malan held in 2020.

As a result, Abhishek widened his lead at the top of the T20I batting rankings. The left-hander also surpassed the previous best ratings of teammates Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav, ending the week with 926 rating points.
Although he made his debut for India only last year, Abhishek has built an impressive record and was named Player of the Tournament at the Asia Cup. He scored 314 runs with an average of 44.85 and a strike rate of 200.
