The much-awaited third edition of the Women’s Premier League 2025 is all set to take place in two stages across Baroda and Lucknow. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has shortlisted these cities as venues, and the WPL 2025 is expected to start on February 6 or 7.
The BCCI has not yet officially announced the schedule or venues, but informal discussions with the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) and Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) suggest that plans are well underway.
WPL 2025 Venues: Baroda’s Kotambi Stadium in Focus for Final
Baroda will host a majority of the games in the second leg of the tournament, culminating in the final on March 8-9. Kotambi Stadium has emerged as one of the most sought-after venues for the BCCI with its modern facilities. The stadium opened last month, hosting international Women’s ODIs and a few domestic cricket matches already.
The Baroda Cricket Association has further fortified its bid by successfully hosting knockout matches of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. Under lights, the semifinal and final matches will act as a litmus test for Kotambi Stadium’s full preparedness.
This will also allow the BCA additional time to ensure every detail is perfected for the Women’s Premier League 2025. Lucknow, which is also a host city, will be hosting the opening phase of the tournament.
Notably, India’s skipper Harmanpreet Kaur has been asked to present herself at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. Though rested officially for the upcoming ODI series against Ireland, it seems her absence has a medical rationale attached to it. The cause of injury has not been clarified yet, but if she is to present herself before the NCA, it hints at making some recovery process work.
The Women’s Premier League 2025 promises intense competition, with Royal Challengers Bengaluru entering as the defending champions.
