With peace talks stalled, US officials have developed plans to restart military strikes against Iran. The renewed push for a military solution follows US President Donald Trump’s two-day visit to China, where he discussed the Iran war and the ongoing closure of the Strait of Hormuz with Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
US plans for Operation Epic Fury 2.0
Trump has dismissed Iran’s peace proposals, claiming they not meet US demands: no nuclear weapons for Iran and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. He reaffirmed this stance while returning to Washington DC aboard Air Force One.
Strikes against Iran
The possibility of a renewed offensive remains significant, as the US not achieved its main goal of denuclearizing Iran. The New York Times reported that the Pentagon is preparing for Operation Epic Fury 2.0 in the coming days. “We have a plan to escalate if necessary,” Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth told.
Two Middle East officials, speaking anonymously, shared that the US and Israel are actively preparing for a potential resumption of strikes against Iran as early as next week. “They’re either going to make a deal or they’re going to be decimated. So, one way or another, we win,” Trump said.
