BCCI Unveils Shubman Gill-Led India Squad for West Indies Tests

BCCI has announce the India Squad for West Indies Test Series, in which Shubman Gill is captain of team. Karun Nair has dropped from India’s Test squad for the two-match series against the West Indies starting in Ahmedabad on October 2. The 33-year-old scored only 205 runs in four Tests in England, averaging 25.62 after being recalled for the first time in eight years. Karnataka’s Devdutt Padikkal, who played two Tests so far, has been brought back into the team.

Although Karun made a half-century in his last Test at The Oval, chief selector Ajit Agarkar said the panel wanted more from the middle-order batter. “We expected more. We feel Padikkal offers a bit more at this point. I wish we could give everyone 15 or 20 Tests. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way,” Agarkar told the media on Thursday, September 25, 2025.

Ravindra Jadeja deputy to captain in India Squad

With Rishabh Pant absent for this series, Ravindra Jadeja has appointed as the deputy to Shubman Gill due to his extensive experience. Pant, who was vice-captain in England, has not yet recovered from a foot injury he sustained in the fourth Test at Old Trafford in Manchester. Dhruv Jurel and N. Jagadeesan are the two wicketkeepers in the 15-member squad.

“Rishabh is the vice-captain and a key player. Unfortunately, he hasn’t fully recovered for this series. We’re hopeful he’ll be available for South Africa. Jadeja has been one of our top performers, so there’s a lot of experience in the team,” explained Agarkar.

Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, and Axar Patel are the spin-bowling options available to Gill. The pace attack includes Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna. Although Bumrah managed his workload and played only three of the five Tests in England, Agarkar confirmed that he is available for both Tests in this series.
