CSK Snaps Up Sarfaraz Khan at IPL 2026 Auction for ₹75 Lakh

Mumbai-based cricketer Sarfaraz Khan was bought for the base price of Rs 75 lakhs by CSK during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 Auction at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday. In contrast, another Mumbai player, Prithvi Shaw, went unsold.

CSK Bought the Sarfaraz Khan at 75 lakh base price

Both Sarfaraz Khan and Prithvi Shaw were in the first set of players listed at the base price of Rs 75 lakhs. Earlier, they did not attract any buyers, but they were introduced again later in the auction.

This time, Sarfaraz Khan got lucky, as CSK placed a bid for him at the base price. No one else showed interest in raising the bid, so Sarfaraz Khan was sold to CSK for the base price. Immediately after him, Prithvi Shaw was put up for auction again but could not find any buyers and remained unsold.

369 players in IPL Auction List

Now, Sarfaraz Khan will wear the yellow jersey in the 19th edition of IPL. Just hours before the auction started, he played an exciting innings during the Mumbai vs. Rajasthan match in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2025. Sarfaraz scored 73 runs off just 22 balls and celebrated his half-century with push-ups in the middle of the pitch. Recently, he made headlines for his fitness after losing about 17 kgs.

A total of 369 players entered the IPL auction pool for the upcoming season. Ten franchises are competing to fill 77 available slots in their squads.

Among the notable deals, Cameron Green was picked up by Kolkata Knight Riders for a huge ₹25.2 crore. Meanwhile, Sri Lankan fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana joined KKR for ₹18 crore, showing significant spending by the franchise at the IPL 2026 auction.
