In cricket, the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 starts today with the opening match between hosts India and Sri Lanka at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. The match begins this afternoon at 3 PM. The Indian women’s cricket team is eager to end a 47-year wait for their first International Cricket Council (ICC) title.

This time, it is the 13th edition of the 50-over tournament, featuring eight teams: Australia, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. These teams play in 28 league matches in a round-robin format across four venues in India and one in Colombo. The much anticipated match between arch-rivals India and Pakistan will take place on October 5 in Colombo.

The top four teams at the end of the group stage will move on to the semi-finals. The team that finishes first play against the fourth side, while the second and third-ranked teams face off in the other semi-final. Reigning champions Australia are the most successful team in Women’s World Cup history, with seven titles. England won it four times, and New Zealand won once.
